With less than 24 hours remaining until the January transfer window slams shut, Arsenal have reportedly completed a shock move for one of Chelsea’s most senior players.

The Gunners, who currently lead the Premier League table by five points, have signed midfielder Jorginho from their London rivals, according to Fabrizio Romano.

He claims that the player has already signed a deal with The Gunners until 2024, with the option for a further 12 months.

Mikel Arteta has previously spoken of his side’s need for reinforcements in midfield, and The Gunners have now added the experienced 31-year-old to their squad ahead of the second half of the campaign.

The Italy international joined The Blues from Serie A side Napoli back in 2017, following manager Maurizio Sarri from Naples.

He has since made more than 210 appearances for the London side, becoming a regular in midfield over the past few seasons.

Despite playing regularly, the Italian has been criticised for some of his performances by sections of The Blues’ supporters.

Jorginho has completed a shock move from Chelsea to Arsenal

As reported by Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg on Monday, Jorginho’s exit came indirectly as a result of Conor Gallagher refusing a move to Premier League strugglers Everton on Monday afternoon.

The England international was the subject of a £40 million bid from The Toffees but opted to stay put at Stamford Bridge, which then prompted those in charge of the club to allow Jorginho to depart.

Jorginho was set to be out of contract at the end of the current season, meaning Chelsea would have lost the player for free.

The player’s former side Napoli were also said to be interested in arranging a return to Italy, but the former Hellas Verona man has instead opted to join Premier League leaders Arsenal.

His midfield teammate, N’Golo Kante, is also set to be out of contract at the end of the current season, and it remains to be seen whether oor not an agreement can be reached over an extension.
