Arsenal travel to Asia later this month for a pre-season tour ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Gunners will face Italian giants AC Milan, before games against Newcastle United and North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Mikel Arteta’s side then begin the new campaign with a visit to old rivals Manchester United on the opening weekend.

Last term Arsenal finished second in the top flight table for the third consecutive season, and Arteta and those in charge of the club will be desperate to go one better next time around.

Despite this, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is the only new signing to have arrived at The Emirates so far this summer.

Now, though, it appears that the Gunners are closing in on a huge signing.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal are increasingly confident about their chances of agreeing a deal to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres from Portuguese side Sporting CP.

The report claims that the player’s representatives have been in discussions with his current club this week in a bid to agree his departure from the Portuguese capital.

Gyokeres, 27, has scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting since joining from Championship side Coventry City in 2023.

It is claimed that the Swedish striker had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with his current employers which would allow him to leave this summer, however the player now feels Sporting have gone back on that.

Manchester United – who were also interested in Gyokeres – are said to have pulled out of the race to sign the forward after he made clear his intention to join Arsenal.

Gyokeres’ current contract with Sporting is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it appears increasingly likely that he will move to The Emirates this summer.
