Arsenal are weighing up a January swoop for Aston Villa and Brazil midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Villans since signing in the summer of 2019.

However, according to The Sun, it’s reported that the Midlands side may face a battle to keep hold of him with the Gunners considering a move.

Mikel Arteta is looking at defensive midfield options with Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny having departed for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Luiz, who spent two years at Manchester City without making a first-team appearance, has made 91 appearances for Villa.

Luiz is a key part of the Villa side.

The South American has also made nine caps for Brazil and won Olympic gold in Tokyo after making his debut in November 2019.

Luiz has 18 months left on his deal at Villa Park meaning Arsenal would likely have to stump up a substantial fee in order to have a chance of landing his signature.

Prior to joining Villa from Man City, Luiz played 46 times in a two-year loan stint with Spanish side Girona.

Arsenal fans – Would Silva be a good addition to your squad?
