Arsenal’s hopes of automatically qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League were dealt a blow on Wednesday as they lost 1-0 to Inter Milan.

A penalty in first-half added time was enough to earn the Serie A champions a valuable win, inflicting a first defeat of the European campaign on Mikel Arteta’s side.

The result leaves the Gunners 12th in the Champions League table, with only the top eight qualifying automatically for the next phase.

Scoring goals has been arguably Arsenal’s biggest problem so far this season, and it appears that those in charge of the club could soon look to rectify that issue.

As per GiveMeSport, the North London outfit could look to agree a deal to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in January.

The report claims that the Swede has an agreement with his current side that he will be able to leave for a fee of around £62..5 million next summer, but Arsenal could look to agree a summer move midway through the season by offering a higher fee.

Gyokeres scored three times against Man City on Tuesday to take his tally for the season to 23 goals

Gyokeres, 26, joined Sporting from Championship side Coventry City last summer and has since established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

The Sweden international has scored an impressive 66 goals in 67 matches for the Portuguese side, including 23 in 17 games so far this term.

On Tuesday, Gyokeres netted a hat-trick to help Sporting to a 4-1 win over Manchester City, in Ruben Amorim’s final home game before he departs to take charge of Manchester United.

The striker’s current contract, which is set to run until 2028, does include a £100 million release clause, but the report suggests that there is an agreement in place between the player and club that he will be able to leave at the end of the season for a lower fee.
