The agent of Genk’s Leandro Trossard has confirmed Aresnal’s interest in the striker, according to the Express.

There were reports last month that Tottenham were also interested in the 23-year-old, but Josy Comhair, the player’s agent has dismissed Spurs’ interest.

He said: “I contacted representatives from Arsenal and Tottenham. At Spurs, nobody wanted to confirm that Trossard is an option, but Arsenal did.”

Since Danny Welbeck’s ankle injury against Sporting Lisbon in mid-November, there has been reports that the Gunners want to sign a striker as a replacement.

It is still unknown when Welbeck will return for Arsenal.

However, Comhair’s comments suggest that a transfer for his client is more likely to happen next season.

He said: “They told me Leandro has a very interesting profile for them and that they’ve been following him since August.

“They also added it was a good choice to stay at Genk for another year.

“They ended the phone call with ‘They are keeping a close eye on him’.”

The Belgian has been in impressive form for Genk this season, netting 13 goals in 10 appearances.
