Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been charged by the FA over comments made in the wake of his side’s defeat to newcastle United earlier this month.

The Spaniard branded the decision to allow Anthony Gordon’s winner against his side as a ‘disgrace’ and also claimed to be ‘ashamed and embarrassed’ by the officiating as his side lost 1-0 to the Magpies.

Arteta was frustrated that Gordon’s goal was allowed to stand despite VAR checks for three possible offences, including a potential foul by Joelinton on defender Gabriel.

The ex-Everton midfielder must now respond to the charge, but could face punishment after the international break.

When the Premier League returns, the January transfer window will be just over a month away, and it appears that those in charge of Arsenal are desperate to complete one signing in particular.

Luis has attracted interest from Arsenal

According to Football Insider, the Gunners are desperate to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz when the transfer window reopens in the new year.

Luiz, 25, has been in fine form for the Villans so far this term, helping Unai Emery’s side to sit fifth in the Premier League table at present.

He has scored six goals and provided two assists in 19 matches across all competitions so far this term.

The Brazlian joined Villa from Manchester City back in 2019 and has since made a total of 170 appearances for the club.

Arsenal’s interest in Luiz stems from the uncertainty over the future of Thomas Partey, who played a key role for Arteta’s side last term but has made just five appearances so far this term.

The Ghanaian’s playing time has undoubtedly been hindered by the arrival of Declan Rice, however he has also suffered with injuries in the early stages of the current campaign.

Partey started the Gunners’ first three league games of the season in a makeshift right-back role, with Rice deployed at the base of Arsenal’s midfield.
