Arsenal make the trip across London to face West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners kept alive their chances of winning the Premier League title with a superb 3-1 victory over leaders Liverpool last time out, and manager Mikel Arteta will be desperate to see his side kick on in the coming weeks.

Last season, the North London outfit finished as runners up behind Manchester City, despite topping the table for much of the campaign.

Arteta will be hoping to go one better this time around, but it also appears that Spaniard is planning ahead for this summer’s transfer window.

As reported by Football Insider, Arsenal have joined fellow Premier League side Newcastle United in the race to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

The report claims that the Magpies are plotting an offer for the Belgian after scouting the midfielder for some time.

Onana joined Everton from Lille in 2021

The Gunners are also now interested in Onana, though, and could rival Newcastle for the player’s signature.

Onana, 22, joined the Toffees from French side Lille in 2021 and has since played 59 times for the club across all competitions.

The Belgium international has featured regularly on Merseyside this season, but his impressive performances for Sean Dyche’s side have attracted interest from elsewhere.

It is claimed that those in charge of Arsenal’s recruitment, including Arteta, are keen to overhaul their midfield this summer and have therefore identified Onana as one of several possible targets.

Onana is said to have cost Everton around £22 million when he joined the club in 2021, and he is currently contracted to the Goodison Park side until the summer of 2027.

The Belgian midfielder’s future on Merseyside could depend, in part at least, on whether or not Dyche’s side can avoid relegation from the top flight at the end of the season.
