Arsenal will continue their pre-season preparations when they face AS Monaco in the Emirates Cup final on Wednesday.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Fabio Vieira helped the Gunners beat Xavi’s Barcelona side 5-3 in their last game.

Mikel Arteta’s side narrowly missed out on the Premier League title after being surpassed by Manchester City towards the end of last season, but the Spaniard will be hoping to bolster his squad ahead of next term.

The North Londoners have spent around £200m this summer to bring Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice to the Emirates Stadium.

Despite bringing in three first-team players so far in this window, the Gunners are still looking to sign more players that will improve Arteta’s side and it appears that Arsenal are keen to provide some competition for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

According to The Atheltic, Arsenal are exploring a deal to sign Brentford ‘keeper David Raya.

Arsenal want to sign Raya to provide competition for Aaron Ramsdale

The report claims that the North Londoners want to sign the Spaniard so that he can compete with Ramsdale for the starting spot in between the sticks.

Raya, 27, joined the Bees from Championship side Blackburn Rovers in 2019.

Since joining the West London side, the Spaniard has established himself as a solid Premier League goalkeeper after impressive performances for the West London club.

The Bees are facing pressure to sell the player, though, as his contract expires next summer, and the ‘keeper is reluctant to sign a new deal and has already rejected two offers to do so.

Arsenal, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich have all reportedly been interested in capturing the former Southport man but are unwilling to meet his £40m price tag set by Brentford.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been open about how highly he values Raya, however, the Bees will be aware of the looming risk of losing the Spaniard on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.
