Arsenal are set to reignite their interest in Belgium international forward Dries Mertens, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Premier League side, who face West Bromwich Albion on Monday Night Football, were understood to be keen on securing a summer deal for the Napoli star, though no transfer ultimately materialised.

The 30-year-old, who has 59 international caps for his country, has impressively scored seven goals and provided three assists in eight appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side so far this season.

Mertens, who joined Napoli back in 2013 following his arrival from PSV Eindhoven, has netted 75 times in 194 outings overall for the club.

The report suggests Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is determined to lure the Belgian forward to the Emirates Stadium during the forthcoming January transfer window, having missed out on a summer swoop, taking advantage of the player’s £26.5m (€30m) release clause.
