Arsenal have reportedly had a £23.4m bid rejected in their attempts to land Spain Under-21 international Saul Niguez this summer, according to radio station Cadena SER (via the Daily Star).

The Premier League title contenders, who were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night following their 5-1 aggregate defeat to FC Barcelona in the last-16, are also interested in landing the Manchester United target and Atletico Madrid midfielder following the conclusion of the current 2015-16 campaign.

The 21-year-old, who started his youth career at Spanish rivals Real Madrid, has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 35 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit so far this season.

Niguez, who is thought to be close to agreeing a new deal at the Vicente Calderon, is currently under contract with Diego Simeone’s side until 2020 and is understood to have a release clause of £18m.

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners will look to get their Premier League title bid back on track when they face Everton this Saturday.
