Arsenal have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign Argentina international goalkeeper Sergio Romero, according to the Daily Star.

The Premier League side, who salvaged a 1-1 draw at Southampton on Sunday afternoon, have been linked with snapping up the out of favour Manchester United shot stopper ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The 30-year-old, who has 93 international caps for his country, has recorded two clean sheets in four appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils so far this season.

Romero, who arrived at Old Trafford back in July 2015 following his free transfer from Serie A outfit Sampdoria, has impressively kept 20 shutouts in just 32 games overall for Jose Mourinho’s side.

However, with the Argentine firmly behind David De Gea in the ‘keepers pecking order at United, the report suggests Romero is seeking more first-team action ahead of next summer’s FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes believe the United player could be on his way out of The Theatre of Dreams in the near future, with Premier League rivals Arsenal surprise favourites to secure his services.
