Arsenal fans will be hoping their side will be busy on Transfer Deadline Day after a difficult start to the season.

Now it seems that fans of the Gunners could reportedly see a new defender brought to the club before the transfer window slams shut.

According to Italy’s La Repubblica, it’s reported that Arsenal ‘would have overtaken’ North London rivals Spurs in the race to sign Bologna star Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Tomiyasu is a Japan international.

It’s claimed that the Emirates outfit have shown an interest in signing the Japan international who has been linked with Tottenham throughout the summer.

A deal for the 22-year-old has since progressed, with Sky Sports now stating that a fee of £19.6 million has been agreed for Tomiyasu.

It’s thought Arsenal’s interest for the player,  who can play as a centre-back or a right-back, accelerated into an offer with Hector Bellerin being allowed to leave on loan for Real Betis.

Tomiyasu, who has been with Bologna since 2019, is now set to have a medical with the Gunners before completing his move.
