Arsenal have made an £8million bid for Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico, according to Calciomercato.

The Gunners are having a bit of a crisis in that position with Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all missing through injury.

These absentees has forced Unai Emery to use midfielder Granit Xhaka as a makeshift full-back in recent matches.

But although the sidelined trio are expected to be available for selection in the near future, the Spanish boss is keen to strengthen that area of his squad.

Unai Emery is still building his squad at the Emirates.

Tagliafico has had a decent opening to the season for the Dutch club and scored twice in the 3-0 Champions League victory against AEK Athens in September.

Despite a disappointing World Cup with Argentina, Newcastle United were trying to bring the ex-Independiente man to England in the summer.

But now the north London side have tabled a concrete offer, it will be very difficult for the Magpies, who sit 19th in the Premier League, to compete.

The 26-year-old has made 31 appearances for the Amsterdam side since making the switch from his home country in January.
