Arsenal will hope to keep up their recent momentum when they welcome Crystal Palace to The Emirates on Wednesday.

The Gunners cruised to a 4-0 win over relegation-threatened Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of a Leandro Trossard brace and goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.

That result leaves Mikel Arteta’s side second in the Premier League table but, with leaders Liverpool needing just one more win to secure the title, Arsenal look set to have to settle for second place for the third successive season.

In Europe, however, the Gunners have reached the last four of the Champions League, with French champions Paris Saint-Germain lying in wait in the semis.

Arteta will likely want to bolster his squad this summer, and it has now emerged that the North London club are plotting an early move to sign one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal have opened discussions around a move for Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres is a target for Arsenal

The Swede has been in sensational form since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, netting 90 times in 96 games for the Portuguese side.

His prolific goal scoring hasn’t gone unnoticed, though, and Arsenal are therefore hoping to beat other interested clubs to a deal early in the upcoming summer window.

Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is said to be a huge admirer of the Sweden international, and the Gunners are therefore set to prioritise a move for the player.

Gyokeres, 26, is said to be Arsenal’s primary transfer target, now ahead of the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen.

The former Sky Blues man is under contract with the Portuguese champions until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but the Gunners are set to attempt to lure him to North London this summer.

Arteta’s squad have been plagued by injuries in attack this season, with current strikers Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus having both missed large parts of the campaign.
