Arsenal’s Premier League title charge was dealt another devastating blow on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton and Hove Albion on the south coast.

The Gunners arrived at The Amex having won their previous three matches in the competition and went ahead through youngster Ethan Nwaneri.

The Seagulls levelled in the second-half, though, when Joao Pedro converted a penalty after William Saliba caught the Brazilian with his head.

Arsenal now sit five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, although the Reds have two matches-in-hand over their title rivals and could extend that lead with victory against Manchester United on Sunday.

In the meantime, it has emerged that Arsenal have made one of the Premier League’s biggest stars their top transfer target ahead of the summer window.

According to Football Insider, the North London outfit have made Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak their top priority for the summer transfer window.

Isak, 25, scored for the seventh successive Premier League match when he netted against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, taking his tally for the season to 14 in 21 games across all competitions.

Isak has scored nine goals in his last seven Premier League matches for Newcastle

The Swede had been a target for Arsenal before he joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022, and the report claims that he remains a ‘key target’ for the club.

It is claimed that Newcastle will not entertain the idea of selling the forward this month, but Arsenal will attempt to lure him to The Emirates when the window reopens at the end of the season.

Isak is contracted to Newcastle until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, and it is suggested that the North East giants value him at a staggering £150 million.

Since arriving at St. James’ Park two-and-a-half years ago, the Sweden international has scored 49 goals and registered nine assists in 88 matches across all competitions.
