Manchester City top the Premier League tree this Christmas, just like they did at the end of last season.

Pep Guardiola’s defending champions sit three points clear ahead of second placed Liverpool after stringing together an eight-match winning run.

Chelsea are a further three points adrift of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds in what looks to be a three-horse race for the crown.

Arsenal sit proudly in fourth after recovering from a disastrous start to the campaign, while West Ham, Manchester United, Tottenham and maybe a couple of others will have their sights set on catching the Gunners.

Pep’s City continue to lead the way.

Those clubs with European ambitions have standout players who have lit up the 2021/22 season to date.

But which individual superstars have been the pick of the bunch?

Here we’ve selected Shoot’s Top 3 players in the 21/22 Premier League  season so far…

3. Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal)

Ramsdale has proved a top signing for Arsenal.

It’s unusual to pick out a goalkeeper but the difference Aaron Ramsdale has made to Arsenal is there for all to see. A summer signing from Sheffield United, the 23-year-old replaced Bernd Leno between the sticks after the Gunners lost their opening three matches of the season. Since then, Mikel Arteta’s side has won 10 of the 15 matches Ramsdale has played in. The stopper has also kept eight clean sheets, conceded just 14 and made a host of impressive saves in those appearances. Ramsdale is a big reason why Arsenal now seem a lot more organised and are in contention for a top-four spot.

2. Bernardo Silva (Man City)

Bernardo and City have been in magnificent form.

It would be impossible to pick a top 3 player list without including one of table topping Man City’s superstars. The likes of Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias have impressed but the most impressive Citizen of all this term has been their fellow Portuguese international, Bernardo Silva. The 27-year-old has seven goals and an assist to his name but although a fair few players rank above him in those areas, his overall play has been on a different level. Classy on the ball, clever off it and with a tireless work rate, Bernardo has been unplayable at times alongside Rodri in Pep’s midfield. If he keeps up his form until May it’s likely the title will be staying at the Etihad.

1. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Salah has been directly involved in 24 goals this season.

Despite not being top, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has easily been the standout player of the season so far. The Egyptian tops the scoring charts with five more than anyone else with 15, and also leads the way when it comes to assists with nine to his name. Salah’s strikes against Man City and Watford will be up for Goal of the Season come the end of the campaign, while his overall play and ability to get the better of every defender he’s come up against has been breathtaking to watch. It will be extremely interesting to see how the Reds cope without their star when he jets off to the Africa Cup of Nations. Liverpool’s loss will surely be Man City and Chelsea’s gain..?
