Having finished as Premier League runners-up in each of the last two seasons, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be keen to bolster his squad this summer. 

The Spaniard was under intense pressure two years ago after an uninspiring campaign, but the Gunners have since finished second twice and provided Manchester City with the fiercest competition for their crown.

Despite his side’s success, Arteta is soon to enter into the final year of his current contract, and it appears that those in charge of the club are therefore keen to tie him down.

As per The Mail, Arteta is in line for a new contract that will earn him a significant pay rise as reward for two successful seasons.

The report claims that the former Arsenal midfielder will soon being negotiations with the club’s chiefs over a new deal.

His current contract, which earns him £9 million-per-year, is set to expire next summer and the club’s bosses are keen to fend off potential interest from elsewhere.

Since taking charge of Arsenal in December 2019, Arteta has overseen more than 230 matches across all competitions, winning 140 games and losing 57 times.

It is claimed that there is confidence among all parties that an agreement over a new deal can be reached, with Arteta likely to be one of the Premier League’s highest paid managers once he signs his new deal.

Prior to taking charge at The Emirates, Arteta worked as Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
