Midfielder Charlie Patino has departed Arsenal to join Spanish side Deportivo de La Coruna.

The Gunners confirmed on Tuesday that the 20-year-old had departed to join the La Liga 2 side on a permanent deal.

Patino was regarded as one of the most talented players to have emerged from Arsenal’s youth academy in recent seasons, having made his senior debut for the North London club in December 2021.

The youngster had initially joined the club in 2015 and progressed through the youth ranks at The Emirates, before scoring on his debut against Sunderland in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Patino spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Football League side Blackpool, making 37 appearances across all competitions and impressing for the Tangerines.

Patino has previously spent time on loan at both Blackpool and Swansea City

He then returned to the capital, before being sent back out on loan to Welsh side Swansea City ahead of last term.

The Englishman played 35 times for the Swans during his spell in Wales, scoring four goals and providing the same number of assists.

Patino’s move to the Spanish second tier may surprise some people, with several clubs in the top two flights of English football having been credited with an interest in the player this summer.

The England under-21 international is capable of playing as either a central midfielder or in a more defensive, holding midfield role.
