Arsenal can cement their place at the top of the Premier League table with victory over Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side moved top of the table courtesy of a 1-0 win over Brentford last weekend, with the Gunners leapfrogging reigning champions Manchester City.

Last season Arsenal topped the Premier League table for several months before ultimately being beaten to the title by the Citizens, and Arteta will be hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself.

The Spaniard will be keen to give his side the best possible chance of winning the league this season, and with that in mind Arsenal are working on agreeing new contracts with two of their defenders.

As reported by 90min, the North London outfit are in negotiations with both Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu over new deals.

White could soon sign a new contract with Arsenal

White, 26, joined Arsenal from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2021 for a fee of £50 million, and has since played an integral role for Arteta’s side.

The Englishman has made more than 100 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions, and has primarily been used as a makeshift right-back as opposed to his more natural central defensive role.

His current contract isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2026, but those in charge of the club are keen to agree an extension and tie the defender down long-term.

Tomiyasu, on the other hand, joined Arsenal from Bologna during the same summer transfer window as White.

The Japan international has since made 71 appearances for the London club, however he has largely played a bit-part role since arriving in the capital.

Tomiyasu’s contract is due to run until 2025, but Arsenal are also keen to tie him down to a longer contract.

The Gunners have been working to secure the long-term futures of some of their biggest stars in recent months, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard all having signed new deals over the past 12 months.
