Arsenal are reportedly set to complete the signing of Japan international forward Takuma Asano, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League side, who finished second in the English top-flight standings last term behind eventual champions Leicester City, have been strongly linked with wrapping up a deal for the highly-rated Sanfrecce Hiroshima striker shortly.

The 21-year-old, who has four international caps for his country, has scored 20 goals in 75 games throughout his short career.

Asano, who is deemed one of Asian football’s brightest prospects, has emerged as a transfer target for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger following the club’s failure to seal a £20m deal for England and Leicester striker Jamie Vardy last month.

The report suggests that the Japanese forward will train with the first-team, but is most likely to be loaned out during his first season at Arsenal.

Asano will become the third Japan player to sign for the Gunners under the Frenchman, following in the footsteps of Ryo Miyaichi and Junichi Inamoto.
