Every major international tournament unearths new stars and talents and propels them into the football stratosphere.

In the 2014 World Cup it was James Rodriguez, in Euro 2016 it was Renato Sanches, and in the 2018 World Cup it was Denis Cheryshev of Russia.

All three of these players made big moves straight after the tournament, signing for Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Valencia respectively.

Tournament season is also the best time to go scouting as you can see first hand how potential signings can react and adapt to pressure cooker like environments where millions of pairs of eyes all over the world are on you – if you can do it there, then you can do it anywhere.

Arsenal are a club who are currently on the prowl for players and, according to Metro, the Gunners are set to compete with Italian giants Juventus for the signature of Italy star Manuel Locatelli.

Locatelli has played three out of four matches for Roberto Mancini’s side in the tournament so far.

The Sassuolo midfielder has taken the tournament by storm, scoring two terrific goals against Switzerland to make Italy the first club to qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2020.

The number five has mainly delivered five star performances as Italy have been one of the most impressive teams to date on their way to the last-eight.

Midfield is an area the Gunners desperately need to strengthen as they look for another player to partner Thomas Partey.

Sassulo’s chairman recently claimed Arsenal have already made a firm bid for the Italian star, but they do not want to discuss or decide anything until after the Euros.

Could Locatelli be another breakout star to earn himself a big move? If his performances over the last few weeks are to go by, then Gooners will certainly hope so.
