Arsenal are reportedly set to pursue the signature of Morocco international defender Mehdi Benatia this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Premier League side, who defeated relegation threatened Norwich City 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, are eager to strengthen their defensive ranks once the current 2015/16 campaign has concluded after failing to win the top-flight title for another year.

The 29-year-old, who has 40 international caps for his country, has scored one goal and provided two assists in 20 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga giants so far this season.

Benatia, who arrived at the Allianz Arena from Italian club AS Roma back in August 2014 following his €26m switch, has struggled with injuries this term and could be offloaded by Munich this summer.

The report suggests that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has turned to the Morocco centre-half as Gabriel has failed to convince the Frenchman of his ability at Arsenal, whilst Per Mertesacker looks likely to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
