Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to Portuguese newspaper, A Bola.
The Portugal international has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Gunners, and the club watched the 23-year-old in action against Estoril on Saturday night.
With Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta set to leave the Emirates in the summer, Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster his midfield, and it is understood that Carvalho has a buy-out clause of £35 million written into his contract. However, it remains to be seen whether the North London club will be willing to pay that much this summer.
The Angolan-born midfielder has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals, and will be a major part of Portugal’s Euro 2016 campaign.
Arsenal are currently enduring a wretched run of form which sees them trailing the leaders Leicester City by eight points in the Premier League, while they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Watford on Sunday.
