Arsenal are reportedly set to beat Liverpool to the £24million signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer, according to the TransferMarketWeb, via the Daily Star.

Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the Switzerland international, and the Gunners are understood to have launched a £24million bid for the 23-year-old last month, who is keen on a move to the Premier League.

However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also interested in bringing the midfielder to Anfield this summer, as are Bayern Munich, although it is understood that Xhaka would prefer to make the move to London and the Emirates.

Following another trophy-less year, Wenger is looking for midfield reinforcements with a number of players, including Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky, among those set to leave the club at the end of the campaign.

Xhaka has made 134 appearances in all competitions for Monchengladbach since making the move in 2012, scoring nine goals.
