Arsenal will be hoping to keep alive their slim chances of winning the Premier League title this season when they face Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Gunners had topped the table for much of the season but a defeat to Manchester City two weeks ago allowed the reigning champions to leapfrog them into top spot.

Mikel Arteta’s side did return to the top when they beat Chelsea on Tuesday, but City now sit in first place after cruising to a 3-0 win over West Ham United on Wednesday.

Regardless of whether they win the league title, Arteta will be pleased that his side have secured qualification for next season’s Champions League.

The Gunners will compete in Europe’s top club competition for the first time in seven years, and it appears that Arteta is keen to bolster his squad with that in mind.

Fresneda is set to be the subject of a new offer from Arsenal

As per Football Insider, the north London side are preparing to launch an offer for Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda.

The report claims that Arsenal will make a new offer to sign the Spaniard when the transfer window opens, having previously failed to sign him in January.

Fresneda, 18, is enjoying an impressive breakthrough season in Spain, having made 21 appearances across all competitions so far this term.

The right-back made his debut last season, and has started 16 La Liga matches this season.

This season, Arteta has primarily played centre-back Ben White as a makeshift right-back, and it appears that the Spaniard is keen to bolster his options and provide White with competition for the starting spot on the right of defence.

It is claimed that Arsenal will table an offer that meets Valladolid’s £20 million valuation of the teenager.
