Arsenal will have to settle for a place in next season’s Champions League after missing out on the Premier League title this term.

The Gunners had topped the table for several months before being leapfrogged by Manchester City last month, and Pep Guardiola’s side secured a third consecutive league title following Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his squad during the upcoming summer transfer window, and it appears that improving his central midfield options will be a top priority for the Spaniard.

It appears, though, that Arsenal will wait until next month to make an official move for the top target.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will launch a bid to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice at the start of June.

Romano claims that Arsenal are currently working on their proposal for the player and will enter into negotiations next month.

Rice is said to be one of Arsenal’s top targets for the upcoming transfer window

It is also claimed, though, that current Gunners midfielder Granit Xhaka is expected to join German side Bayer Leverkusen next month.

The Switzerland international is expected to join the Bundesliga side on a four-year-deal, with manager Xabi Alonso waiting for the experienced player to join.

Rice, 24, has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe over the past few years and is also a regular for England at international level.

Xhaka, meanwhile, has endured highs and lows during his time at The Emirates.

The Swiss player was booed off the pitch by Arsenal supporters back in 2019 and was subsequently stripped of the club captaincy, but this term he has played a crucial role for Arteta’s side.

Despite making 46 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions so far this season, the 30-year-old is expected to end his seven-year stay with the club.
