Manchester United all but ensured that the 2021 summer transfer window will go down in history as the most startling on record last week by announcing the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the club.

The Portugal international spent six seasons with the club before departing for Real Madrid in a then world-record £80 million transfer in 2009.

Ronaldo has since scored 551 club goals and won an array of team and individual trophies.

However, after a disappointing season with Juventus last season, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is returning to Old Trafford.

Aubameyang was substituted off during the second half of Arsenal’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

Ronaldo follows Lionel Messi, Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Jadon Sancho in a long list of world stars who have moved during what has been a remarkable window so far.

However, while fans across the world wait eagerly for Ronaldo’s second Red Devils debut, Juventus are left with the task of replacing a man who scored 101 goals in 134 games for the Old Lady.

A number of players have since been linked with a move to Turin, including former Premier League pair Sergio Aguero and Eden Hazard.

However, one current Premier League player who had also been touted as a possible Ronaldo replacement has since been ruled out of a move.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not being considered by the Serie A club.

The Gabon international was rumoured to have been a candidate to replace Ronaldo in Italy, but Romano has since ruled out a move, stating that the striker is not on the Italian side’s list of targets.
