Premier League champions Arsenal will welcome newly-promoted Coventry City to The Emirates on the opening day of the 2026/27 season.

Mikel Arteta’s side ended a run of three consecutive second-placed finishes in the Premier League by lifting the title last term, beating Manchester City to top spot.

The Sky Blues, meanwhile, cruised to the Championship title under Frank Lampard, but face a daunting start to life back in the top flight.

Away from the action, the transfer window is now up and running, and it is emerging that Arsenal face losing one of their most talented young players in the near future.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal youngster Kyran Thompson has not yet agreed a new contract with the club and could therefore leave.

The 16-year-old winger is widely regarded as one of the most talented young players in Arsenal’s coveted Hale End academy, and he has even represented the club at Under-21 level.

Thompson – who primarily operates on the right flank but can play centrally or on the left – has represented England at Under-17 level.

The teenager’s current contract with Arsenal is set to expire at the end of June but, although the two parties have been in discussions, an agreement has not yet been reached.

Several unnamed clubs are said to be keeping tabs on the youngster’s situation, with the player himself having put talks on hold as he is keen to assess his options.

Arsenal are said to be keen to keep hold of the winger, who scored four goals and registered three assists for Arsenal’s Under-18s across the U18 Premier League, UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup.
