Arsenal’s 2021/22 campaign couldn’t have started much worse than it did, as the Gunners succumbed to a 2-0 opening day defeat to newly-promoted Brentford in what was the Bees’ first ever Premier League game.

Mikel Arteta’s team were one of the form sides towards the end of last season, despite recording their worst finishing position in 25 years, but failed to continue their good form against Brentford.

Following the result, pundits and fans alike called on Mikel Arteta to recruit further reinforcements to bolster his squad.

The Gunners have so far signed Ben White and Nuno Tavares, as well as Albert Lokonga.

However, Arteta has still not signed a goalkeeper, midfielder or striker, all of which were targets of his before the window opened.

Now, with just a fortnight until the window slams shut again, it appears that Arsenal are still in the chase for a Championship star.

Ramsdale was an unused member of England’s Euro 2020 squad.

Aaron Ramsdale remains a target of the Gunners, according to Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic.

The North London side had been linked with a £30 million move for the Englishman earlier in the window, but talks reportedly broke down as the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee.

Now, however, the move could be back on as The Athletic are reporting that the Blades have lowered their asking price from £35 million to around £24 million.

Ramsdale, who has been relegated from the top flight in each of the past two seasons with Bournemouth and United respectively, has told the club that he wants to join Arsenal this summer.

Arteta is reportedly keen to recruit a ‘keeper, initially to provide competition for Bernd Leno, and then to succeed the German, who will be out of contract in 2023.
