Arsenal have reportedly tabled an improved offer of £40m for France international forward Thomas Lemar, according to L’Equipe.

The Gunners, who finished fifth in the English top-flight standings last term, therefore missing out on subsequent qualification for the UEFA Champions League, have been heavily linked with luring the highly-rated AS Monaco winger to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 21-year-old, who has five international caps for his country, scored an impressive 14 goals and provided 17 assists in 55 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 champions last season.

Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

Lemar, who was born in Guadeloupe, has netted 19 goals in 89 games overall for Monaco since joining from fellow French outfit Caen back in 2015.

After an opening offer of £35m from Arsenal was rejected earlier this summer, the report now suggests Arsene Wenger’s side have come back with an increased bid of £40m in an attempt to land the French forward, who scored twice against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the 2016-17 Champions League campaign.
