Arsenal are eyeing a swoop for Roma’s Amadou Diawara, according to reports.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his midfield ahead of the 2020/21 season to build on their recent FA Cup win.

According to The Telegraph, the Spaniard is attempting to strike a deal with the Serie A side for Diawara.

The 23-year-old only moved to the Italian capital last summer from Napoli, signing a contract which runs until 2024.

Arteta has enjoyed a progressive start to his Arsenal tenure.

In his first season with the club, the Guinea international, who likes to operate as a shield front of the backline, made 30 appearances in all competitions.

It’s claimed that Roma do not want to lose Diawara but Arsenal are planning to offer fellow defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira as part of a swap deal.

The Uruguayan impressed fans after his switch from Sampdoria in 2018, but it’s thought that he is interested in a move back to Italy.

Diawara started his career with San Marino before making his Serie A breakthrough at the age of 18 with Bologna.
