Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Portugal international midfielder Danilo Pereira, according to A Bola.

The Premier League side, who climbed up to second spot in the top-flight table following Sunday’s late 2-1 victory over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium, have been linked with the FC Porto defensive midfielder before the close of the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old, who has 17 international caps for his country and featured for Portugal as they won Euro 2016 last summer in France, has scored two goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for the Liga NOS outfit so far this season.

Danilo, who began his senior career in Italy with Parma, is contracted at the Estadio do Dragao until 2020, though he is thought to have a whopping €40m (£34.8m) release clause.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has only brought in one player during the January transfer window, signing promising full-back Cohen Bramall from Northern League Premier Division outfit Hednesford Town.
