Arsenal were denied a stunning victory over Manchester City by John Stones’ dramatic late goal at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon.

After Erling Haaland had put the hosts ahead with his 100th goal for the Citizens, full-back Riccardo Calafiori then levelled things up with a stunning curled strike.

Fellow defender Gabriel then headed the Gunners into a shock lead, before winger Leandro Trossard was shown a second yellow card and sent off on the stroke of half-time.

Mikel Arteta’s side battled bravely in the second half and looked to have earned all three points until deep into added time, when Stones pounced on a loose ball to fire past David Raya.

The result leaves City top of the Premier League table, while Arsenal sit fourth.

Off the pitch, Arsenal have reportedly made a big decision on the future of one of their defenders.

Tomiyasu could leave Arsenal next year

As per CaughtOffside, the North London outfit could allow full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu to depart the club amid concerns around his injury record.

The Japan international was rewarded with a new contract earlier this year, however the deal was the same length as his previous one as the club were concerned about the player’s availability.

Tomiyasu, 25, joined the Gunners from Italian side Bologna in the summer of 2021 and has since played 83 times for Arsenal across all competitions.

The versatile defender – who can play across the back four – hasn’t made a single appearance so far this term due to injury, though, and those in charge of the club are increasingly concerned.

Serie A sides AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli are all said to be interested in Tomiyasu, who was hugely impressive during his spell in Italy with Bologna.

Despite interest from several clubs, the report does say that the player is unlikely to leave The Emirates during the mid-season January transfer window.
