Arsenal have launched a surprise late bid for England Under-20 international defender Ben Chilwell, according to the Daily Mail.
The Premier League title contenders, who suffered a 1-0 home defeat to the hands of Chelsea on Sunday, are understood to be ready to spend £5m on the highly-rated Leicester City left-back before the close of the January transfer window next week.
The 19-year-old, who came through the Foxes’ youth ranks, has made three first-team appearances for Claudio Ranieri’s side in the FA Cup and League Cup this season.
However Chilwell, who is yet to make his Premier League debut, has been attracting interest from fellow rivals Liverpool and Tottenham this month.
But Leicester are eager to keep hold of their prized possession at the King Power Stadium past the end of this month, with the league leaders set to offer the young defender an improvement on his current £800-a-week deal in a bid to keep hold of his services.
