Arsenal will hope to keep alive their Premier League title hopes when they visit struggling Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side have finished second in each of the past two campaigns and currently occupy second spot behind leaders Liverpool, who could stretch their advantage to nine points if they beat Everton on Wednesday night.

The Gunners were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United last week and, having already exited the FA Cup, Arteta is left with only the Premier League and Champions League as chances for his side to win a trophy this term.

The North London outfit have suffered with injuries this term, particularly in attack, and according to Sky Sports News forwards Kai Havertz may now miss the remainder of the season.

With that in mind, though, it appears that Arsenal are working to agree a new contract with one of their other attackers.

According to GiveMeSport, the Gunners are currently prioritising a new contract for winger Gabriel Martinelli, with the 23-year-old’s current deal set to expire in 2027.

Martinelli is set to be offered an improved contract by Arsenal

The Brazilian’s current deal is said to earn him £180,000-per-week, but the report claims that Arsenal are intent on agreeing new terms with the player in order to ensure he stays put and is tempted by offers from elsewhere.

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian side Ituano in 2019 and has since played more than 200 times for the London side across all competitions, scoring 48 goals and providing 26 assists.

It is claimed that the club are currently in talks with Martinelli’s representatives as the two parties try to reach an agreement over a new deal.

The report suggests that discussions are only in the early stages, but there is optimism from both sides of the negotiations that an agreement will be reached and the player will commit his long-term future to the Gunners.
