Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes took a huge blow on Saturday as they were beaten 1-0 by London rivals West Ham United.

Jarrod Bowen’s first-half goal proved to be enough to earn the Hammers a memorable victory in North London, denying the Gunners the opportunity to move to within five points of leaders Liverpool.

Things got worse for Arsenal on Sunday as the Reds cruised to a 2-0 win against reigning champions Manchester City, meaning Arne Slot’s side now sit 11 points clear at the top of the standings.

Arsenal were once again without a number of players for Saturday’s game against West Ham, with midfielder Mikel Merino used as a makeshift striker, albeit far less successfully then he was during his two-goal substitute appearance against Leicester City last week.

The Gunners are on the hunt for a new midfielder this summer, but it appears that they are still working on a move for one of their top targets.

According to Ben Jacobs via GiveMeSport, the North London side are yet to agree a deal to sign midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad this summer.

Zubimendi remains a target for Arsenal but a deal is yet to be agreed

Zubimendi has been a target for Arsenal since January, but the report claims that the club are yet to reach an agreement with the 26-year-old.

Despite this, it is also claimed that a ‘broad agreement’ for the midfielder to move to The Emirates is in place.

The central midfielder is a product of Sociedad’s youth system and has now played 220 times for the La Liga side across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing the same number of assists.

The Spain international is contracted to his boyhood club until the summer of 2027, but the report suggests that the Gunners remain hopeful of luring the player to London when the transfer window reopens this summer.
