Premier League leaders Arsenal face reigning champions Manchester City in a potentially crucial match on Sunday.

The Gunners currently sit top of the top flight standings, ahead of second-placed Liverpool on goal difference and above City by a single point.

Manager Mikel Arteta will be desperate to see his side emerge victorious against the Citizens, having finished as runners-up to Pep Guardiola’s side last season.

In the meantime, one of Arsenal’s most promising young stars is reportedly set to sign a record-breaking deal.

As reported by Football Insider, 17-year-old wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri is set to sign his first professional contract with the Gunners.

Nwaneri will returning from international duty with England under-17s this week, and is set to sign his first senior deal with the club after turning 17 last week.

The young striker is regarded as one of the most promising stars to emerge from Arsenal’s youth academy in recent seasons, and made his senior debut for the North London club as a substitute during a 3-0 win over Brentford last season.

Nwaneri is set to sign his first professional contract with Arsenal this week

Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history when he was subbed on against the Bees, at the age of 15 years and 181 days.

He made his second senior appearance for Arteta’s side against West Ham United in February.

The report claims that Nwaneri will sign a contract that will make him the highest paid academy star in the club’s history, with an agreement already in place.

The Englishman has attracted interest from some of Arsenal’s rivals in recent months, including both Man City and fellow London side Chelsea.

Despite interest from elsewhere, the teenager is said to be keen to continue working under Arteta and has therefore decided to commit his future to the North London outfit.
