Arsenal have made vast improvements since the international break in early September, before which the Gunners looked to be in serious trouble.

Defeats to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City had left Mikel Arteta’s side rock bottom of the table after three matches, but victories over Burnley, Norwich City and rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the weeks since the Premier League returned have seen them climb the table and even leapfrog Spurs.

As well as the upturn in results, Arsenal fans can also be encouraged by the performances of a number of their summer signings.

The North London side spent more than £150 million during the summer window, bringing in the likes of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

All three new singings have now established themselves as first team regulars, with Ramsdale in particular impressing during the past few weeks.

Now, it appears that the Gunners’ successful summer spending has encouraged them to continue recruiting, with a number of players on the club’s wish list.

Tomiyasu has impressed since joining Arsenal last month

According to Football London, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will target a midfielder and a defender when the January window comes around.

The report suggests that a goalkeeper could also be targeted, in order to provide competition for Aaron Ramsdale, with Bernd Leno expected to leave the club having fallen behind the Englishman in the pecking order.

Granit Xhaka’s recent injury, expected to keep him out for around eight weeks, is believed to be a factor in the club’s decision to prioritise a midfielder, with the injury highlighting the club’s lack of depth in the position.

A defender is also a priority, with both Rob Holding and Calum Chambers seemingly out of favour at the club and Pablo Mari having struggled for form in recent weeks.

Technical Director Edu, who was responsible for a number of the club’s summer signings, is believed to be working hard ahead of the window opening in the new year.
