Arsenal knew that they had to beat league leaders Leicester at the Emirates to remain in the hunt for the Premier League title, and they did just that.

Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes took the lead in North London when Jamie Vardy was brought down by Nacho Monreal in the box, and the England international stepped up to fire the visitors ahead.

However, Leicester’s Danny Simpson was sent off nine minutes into the second half for a second yellow card, and Arsenal equalised 16 minutes later through Theo Walcott.

And then Danny Welbeck headed home a dramatic late winner to seal the victory for Wenger’s side to inflict just a third defeat of the season on Leicester, and their second to Arsenal.

The result put the Gunners within two points of the league leaders, but they were unable to sustain a title charge, and eventually finished ten points behind the Foxes in second.
