Sam Allardyce will go down in the history books as the most successful England manager ever, winning 100 per cent of his games in charge. Yes, just that one!

However, his reign ended swiftly and in disgrace after just 67 days due to an undercover sting by The Telegraph, but just how would the Three Lions fare under the management of current Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger down the line.

Currently, Gareth Southgate is England’s interim manager for the next two games, although Frenchman Wenger has been tipped as a possible future long-term candidate.

Well, there is no sure-fire way of finding out what could have been, however, our friends over at Football Manager have the tools to give us the most accurate answer, so we’ve asked them to have a look into the future for us and find out.

So; lets imagine, 66-year-old Wenger has just been appointed Three Lions manager on a permanent deal, how well will the Gunners boss do in charge of England…

There is no other way of putting this, but he smashes the qualifying campaign – guiding our national side through a flawless process.

Wenger’s Three Lions put together a perfect qualifying campaign, winning all 10 fixtures to top the group by a country mile.

The Arsenal boss hands international caps to a total of 23 players during the qualifying campaign, with Everton midfielder Ross Barkley proving to be the best of the bunch with an average match rating of 7.51.

However, Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy notched four goals each to share the top goalscorer accolade.

Heading into the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia, the Three Lions are drawn against South Korea, Cameroon and Austria in the group stages.

Two wins and a lone draw against South Korea see England top the group and head safely into the knockout stages.

Next up, Ecuador, which Wenger’s men comfortably defeat 2-0 thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Heading into the quarter-finals, familiar foes Portugal stand between the Three Lions and the semi-finals. However, luck is on Wenger’s side as the Frenchman masterminds a near-perfect tactical performance as England run out 3-1 winners.

Strikes from Rashford, Daniel Sturridge and Michael Keane book England’s place in the semi-finals for the first time since Italia ’90. Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed Portugal’s consolation.

England’s semi-final opponents are Wenger’s home nation, France. And that, my friend, is where this story unfortunately ends.

Les Bleus cruise into the World Cup final thanks to a brace from Antoine Griezmann.

The third place play-off pits England against Brazil, with the South Americans prevailing 2-1, with a Neymar winner.

Nonetheless, a host of England’s young players impressed at the tournament, with Rashford, Keane and Dele Alli all shining at various points.

But, England’s top performer was the more established Jordan Henderson of Liverpool, who notched a 7.56 average rating.

Oh well! We move onto Euro 2010… I suppose!
