Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he tried to sign England star Jadon Sancho.

The 19-year-old, who scored his first two Three Lions goals in the 5-3 win over Kosovo on Tuesday, has excelled for Borussia Dortmund over the past 18 months.

Despite being offered a deal by Manchester City, the forward made the move to the Bundesliga side in 2017.

But Wenger, who was in charge of the Gunners for 22 years, has unveiled that he attempted to bring the London-born attacker to the Emirates before he opted to go to Germany.

Wenger claims he tried to sign Sancho from Manchester City.

I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn’t get the games,” the Frenchman said on beIN Sports.

I tried to lure him because he’s from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal.

He’s one of the best players of his generation. He can dribble, he has the arrogance.

There’s something in there that is part of the big players. You can call it arrogance, confidence, belief; but it has to be there.”

The winger scored 13 times in 43 games last term and has so far followed that up with three goals in five club matches so far this season.
