Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has been desperately searching for a defender this summer and have now been set a price for former Man United man, Jonny Evans.

According to The Guardian, West Brom have confirmed that they will not let their man leave for any less that £25m, though they value the Northern Irishman at £30m.

The Gunners are in the midst of a defensive crisis, with Per Mertersacker and Gabriel Paulista both sidelined with 20-year-old Rob Holding having started at centre-back in the opening two Premier League fixtures.

Wenger’s desperate scrap for a centre-half has resulted in clubs ramping up their asking price, with Valencia asking for £50m to let Skhodran Mustafi leave for The Emirates.

Evans, who has a Champions League and three Premier League titles to his name, joined The Baggies from Man United last summer for just over £7m, and made 36 appearances for Tony Pulis’ side last season, scoring on one occasion.

The Gooners face the short trip to Watford on Saturday and it appears that Wenger will have to spend big in order to solve his problem before the weekend.
