Aston Villa have accepted a bid from Premier League side Middlesbrough for striker Rudy Gestede, according to reports from Sky Sports News.

The former Blackburn man, who joined Villa for a fee of just over £7m at the start of last season, has bagged ten goals in his 55 appearances for the Villans.

Aitor Karanka’s side have been struggling for goals upon their return to the Premier League, with former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo sitting atop of their scoring charts with five so far this term.

Boro fans will be hoping the presence and stature of the 28-year-old, who turned heads at Blackburn scoring 35 in 72 appearances, can bring about a change in their fortunes.

Despite his scoring record at previous clubs, Gestede struggled in his one and only Premier League season to date, scoring just five league goals as a sorry Villa side slumped to relegation.

However, considering that it is the January window £6m can be considered a fantastic price for those at the Riverside and, you never know, it could just be the signing that keeps them up.
