Aston Villa have agreed a fee with Burnley for their captain Tom Heaton, according to reports.

The England international is in the final year of his contract with the Clarets and has been linked with a move to Villa Park all summer.

Now, according to The Telegraph, the Championship play-off winners have moved a step closer to signing the goalkeeper after agreeing to pay £8million.

After sitting out much of the 2017/18 campaign through injury, Heaton regained his place between the sticks midway through last season, taking over from Joe Hart.

Heaton has played 200 matches for Burnley.

However, with Nick Pope, who performed so well in 2017/18, fully fit and tied down to a long-term deal, Burnley are willing to let their long-serving stopper move on.

Villa boss Dean Smith has been the busiest manager so far this summer, bringing in 10 new faces.

The Villans are set to embark on their first season back in the Premier League since suffering relegation in 2016.
