Championship outfit Aston Villa are considering a summer move for Hull City’s Ahmed Elmohamady, according to reports (via The Hull Daily Mail).

Steve Bruce’s Villans endured an indifferent first season in the second tier this time round by finishing 13th in the table, 18 points adrift of the play-offs but 11 points clear of the bottom three.

Clearly, much work is needed over the summer for the Midlands outfit to bridge that gap between themselves and the top sides in the division in what will be Bruce’s first full season in charge, having replaced the sacked Roberto Di Matteo back in October.

And the former Hull City boss looks set to raid his ex-employers with the signing of 29-year-old Elmohamady, who was unable to keep the Tigers in the Premier League this term.

The Egypt international started 28 of the North East outfit’s 38 league matches this season, showing versatility to play right-back and at wing-back, but contributed just two assists as Marco Silva’s side suffered the heartbreak of relegation.

However, it appears that Bruce is eyeing up a reunion with Elmohamady this summer, given the two worked together at Hull and Sunderland in the past, as the 56-year-old looks to build a squad capable of challenging near the top of the Championship.

And with experience of achieving promotion from the second tier, both times with Hull, Elmohamady could be exactly the sort of signing Villa need to push on next term.
