Aston Villa have reportedly failed in a shock bid to sign former Spain international forward Michu on transfer deadline day, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who sit rock-bottom in the standings and ten points adrift of safety, were interested in snapping up the former Swansea City striker from Spain’s fourth-tier outfit UP Langreo this month.

The 29-year-old, who made his international debut back in October 2013, scored an impressive 28 goals in 67 appearances for the Swans between 2012 and 2015 after arriving from Rayo Vallecano for a bargain £2m.
