Few clubs have been busier than Aston Villa this summer, with high profile outgoings and numerous incomings at the club and almost a fortnight to go for yet more drama to unfold.

Club captain Jack Grealish departed his boyhood club to join Manchester City earlier this month, becoming the most expensive British player in history in doing so.

However, Villa appeared to have already moved to replace their talisman, with Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings joining defensive pair Ashley Young and Axel Tuanzebe through the door at Villa Park.

Having spent almost £100 million on players this summer alone, many people thought that Villa’s spending spree had finished.

However, it now appears that the Villans are in pole position to secure yet another impressive signing.

Damsgaard’s spectacular free-kick gave Denmark the lead in their Euro 2020 semi-final against England.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the club, along with fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, are in ‘first place’ to sign Danish midfielder Mikel Damsgaard.

The report suggests that the Sampdoria winger is being chased by a host of Europe’s top clubs, including AC Milan and Juventus, but that the Premier League duo are first in the queue for the Dane’s signature.

Damsgaard, 21, impressed at Euro 2020, most notably scoring against England in the semi-finals, and speculation surrounding his future has since increased.

The Italian outlet also suggests that the player’s future will ‘be decided in the last days of the transfer window’.

Damsgaard’s emergence as a possible target may surprise some, with Villa already boasting Anwar El Ghazi, Bailey and Bertrand Traore as wingers, while Buendia and Ollie Watkins are also capable of playing out wide.
