Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Jackson Irvine.

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail the Burton Albion midfielder is in the transfer plans of five Championship clubs.

Irvine settled instantly to life in the Championship after Nigel Clough paid what was described as a club record fee to sign the midfielder from Ross County last summer.

Ten goals in 41 Championship appearances went a long way to ensuring that Burton stayed up after their first ever season in the second tier of English football.

Irvine started his career at Celtic but after loan spells at Kilmarnock and Ross County he made the move to the Dingwall club and also broke into the Australian national side.

The 24-year-old turned down a big money move to China in January but is highly ambitious and would jump at the chance to move to a club of Villa’s size.
