Aston Villa are reportedly set to miss out on signing former West Brom and West Ham United midfielder Morgan Amalfitano this month.

The Premier League side, who sit rock-bottom of the standings and already 11 points adrift of safety, want the free agent to help with their miraculous bid for survival during the second-half of the 2015-16 campaign.

The 30-year-old, who earned one international cap for France, scored three goals in 28 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers last season before breaching a club rule in August last year which prompted his exit just a few months later in October.

It is understood that Ligue 1 outfit Lille are edging closer to confirming the signing of Amalfitano, who scored three goals in 87 games for rivals Marseille between 2011 and 2014.

The French right winger originally joined West Ham in a deal worth a reported £700,000 back in September 2014 after an impressive season-long loan with the Baggies during the 2013-14 season.
