Aston Villa are reportedly set to sell Ashley Westwood to Burnley in order to fund a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak, according to the Mirror.

Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo is desperate to add some steel to his team after they lost their first two competitive matches of the new season – the latter an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to League Two Luton Town in the EFL Cup in midweek.

The Italian is looking for a leader in midfield, and has identified the Eagles’ Jedinak as the man he wants, with the Australia international out of favour at Selhurst Park after being stripped of the captaincy by manager Alan Pardew ahead of the new campaign.

Villa will look to move Westwood on to Premier League new boys Burnley first though, while the Midlands club are also understood to be closing in on a £7 million deal for West Bromwich Albion defender James Chester.
